Julie Anne Shea continues a path trodden a century ago by her grandmother.

From her studio in the forest of Dondingalong in rural NSW she lives and works off-grid, drawing representationally and experimentally on paper, combining accident and intent.

Formally educated at Alexander Mackie/CAI and with a Master of Cross Disciplinary Art & Design from the UNSW, Julie has undertaken independent studies including marble sculpting at Studio Carlo Nicoli in Carrara, Italy; supervised research in Art & Animism with Dr Jacqueline Drinkall; and Art Writing and mentoring with Amy Kennedy, as well as diverse MOOCs.

Her work has been acknowledged with multiple drawing awards from regional NSW including the Port Macquarie Art Prize and the Bellingen Art Prize, and for animated drawing in the USA.

Artist, teacher, co-ordinator and curator, Julie has long term associations with a variety of art communities including Macleay Valley Community Gallery, Wonderland Framing & Art, local disability services, life drawing groups, and broader regional, urban and interstate art communities.

Julie exhibits regularly at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery.
